Shockwave therapy for shoulder impingement and rotator cuff rehab Glasgow Physio Effect

Resolve Rotator Cuff Pain & Restore Overhead Mobility

Shoulder Impingement Syndrome (Subacromial Pain Syndrome) occurs when the tendons of the rotator cuff become "pinched" or compressed as they pass through the narrow space beneath the acromion (the top of the shoulder blade). At Physio Effect, we use Swiss Dolorclast® Shockwave Therapy to reduce tendon thickening and inflammatory markers, providing a fast-track return to sport and daily activity.

Why Does My Shoulder Feel "Pinched"?

Impingement is often caused by repetitive overhead movements—common in swimming, crossfit, and racquet sports—or postural changes from desk-based work. This leads to:

  • Tendon Thickening: The rotator cuff tendons swell, taking up more space in the shoulder joint and increasing the "pinch."

  • Bursitis: Inflammation of the fluid-filled sac (bursa) that cushions the joint.

  • Painful Arc: Sharp pain when lifting the arm between 60° and 120°

The Science: How Shockwave Resolves Impingement

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is a highly effective, non-invasive alternative to corticosteroid injections for shoulder pain. It addresses the "space" issue by:

  1. Reducing Tendon Volume: By stimulating the remodeling of disorganized collagen fibers, Shockwave helps to "slim down" thickened tendons, creating more space in the subacromial gap.

  2. Modulating Neurogenic Inflammation: Shockwave reduces the release of inflammatory neuropeptides, providing rapid pain relief where traditional anti-inflammatories may have failed.

  3. Improving Vascularity: Increasing blood flow to the rotator cuff tendons (which naturally have a poor blood supply) to support long-term structural repair.

Your Shoulder Recovery Pathway

At Physio Effect, we bridge the gap between clinical treatment and functional strength.

  • Specialist Assessment: Our team, led by Danny Wray, will assess your scapular (shoulder blade) mechanics to ensure we are treating the root cause of the impingement.

  • Shockwave Protocol: A typical course involves 3 to 5 sessions. Most patients report increased range of motion and decreased "catching" after the first few sessions.

  • Integrated Rehab: We utilize the EDA Gym facility to retrain your rotator cuff and mid-back muscles, ensuring your shoulder stays "open" and pain-free during movement.
