Patellar Tendinopathy Treatment Glasgow | Specialist Shockwave Therapy
Specialist Recovery for Jumper’s Knee & Chronic Knee Pain
Patellar Tendinopathy is a common overuse injury that causes pain at the front of the knee, specifically in the tendon connecting the kneecap (patella) to the shinbone. Often resistant to rest alone, Swiss Dolorclast® Shockwave Therapy is a clinically proven intervention designed to stimulate repair in the tendon and get you back to jumping, running, and lifting pain-free
Why is My Knee Pain Persistent?
Patellar tendinopathy is not usually a short-term "inflammation." Instead, it is a failure of the tendon to heal correctly after repetitive loading. The tendon fibers become disorganized, and the body’s natural repair process stalls.
Common Signs of Jumper's Knee:
Localized Pain: Sharp pain directly below the kneecap during activity.
The "Warm-up" Effect: Pain that is stiff at the start of exercise, disappears during the session, but returns significantly worse afterward.
Pain with Stairs: Discomfort when walking down stairs or during deep squats.
The Science: How Shockwave "Resets" the Patellar Tendon
For chronic knee pain, Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is used to bypass the "stalled" healing phase:
Stimulating Tenocytes: The acoustic energy stimulates the tendon cells (tenocytes) to produce new, healthy collagen.
Pain Modulation: Shockwave therapy helps to "switch off" the over-sensitized nerves around the kneecap, allowing for a more comfortable return to exercise.
Increased Vascularity: By increasing blood flow to the patellar tendon—which naturally has a limited blood supply—Shockwave accelerates the metabolic repair process
From Treatment to Performance
At Physio Effect, we don't just use the machine; we use our environment. Because we are based in the Everyday Athlete (EDA) Gym, with access to full gym facilities, we can ensure your tendon can actually handle the load of your sport.
Biomechanical Assessment: Our specialists, including Danny Wray and Jonny Kilpatrick, will assess your squat mechanics, running gait, jump landing patterns & any other movement patterns uniquely important to you.
Shockwave Protocol: A standard course involves 3 to 5 sessions, performed weekly. Holistic treatment will look to address any other contributing muscle imbalance or joint stiffness
The Loading Phase: Once Shockwave has reduced your pain, we use the gym facility to take you through a structured but bespoke "Heavy Slow Resistance" (HSR) program, the gold standard for long-term tendon health.
